How does renting DVDs in the post work?

Even though there is a choice of providers, the 'system' is often very similar. You sign-up for monthly membership and then create a list of movies that you want to rent. This is an ordered 'queue' if you like. You rate each movie on how quickly you want to see it, and then the company will post that DVD to you as soon as it's available. If they can't send you your first choice, then they send you the 2nd, and so on.

In most cases you then get to keep the movie for aslong as you want. When you've viewed it, you post it back (in a pre-paid envelope) and they then send you the next one in the queue. The quicker you watch the movies, the more movies per month you can see. Some cheaper packages limit you to say 5 rentals per month. Most services allow you to have 2-3 DVDs at any time.
